How to Remove Chocolate Ice Cream Stain from Clothes

Summer and ice cream cones go hand in hand. But if you’ve ever given a kid an ice cream cone on a hot day, you’ve certainly seen the mess that can be made. Ice cream covered faces, sticky hands and fingers; when the ice cream melts faster than they can lick it up, the likelihood of a sticky mess on their clothes is pretty high.

While getting those ice cream stains out of clothing may seem tricky, below are some helpful hints on removing those stains!

How to Get Out Chocolate Ice Cream Stains

  1. Act Fast

Whether you are home or out and about, the faster you start working on the stain, the better! Remove any extra ice cream from the clothing with a spoon or a dull knife. You can also use damp paper towel, but remember to blot not rub! You don’t want to work the stain into the fibers of the fabric any further.

  1. Rinse the Stain

Run clean, cold water through the back of the fabric, to push the stain out of the fibers. Avoid using hot water as it may cause the stain to set.

  1. Use Soap

Use a clean rag and a DIY dish soap solution to wash out as much of the stain as possible. To make the solution, mix 1 tbsp. dish soap & 10 oz water in a spray bottle. If you don’t have your solution close at hand, regular hand or dish soap will work in a pinch.

  1. Pretreat the Stain

Follow the directions on your favorite stain remover to pretreat the stain before washing. Remember to always test any stain removal solution on a small area of the clothing first to make sure it doesn’t discolor the clothing.

  1. Wash the Clothing

Wash the item of clothing using your favorite laundry detergent. Make sure you use cold water for best results.

  1. Double Check

Check to see if the stain has been removed. If it has not, repeat the above steps until the stain has been removed completely before tossing the clothing into the dryer. If a stain is still present, drying the clothing will set the stain.

Find an Old Stain? No Problem!

If you come across an old stain, soak the clothing in cold water with the stain remover for a few hours. Then pop it in the wash and the stain should be gone!
