The Ms. Molly Foundation continues to host events as part of Domestic Violence Awareness month. Here a few highlights of events planned in the upcoming week.
Dave & Mary Dickinson of Molly Maid of Chapel Hill
The Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County will host a tenth birthday celebration and gala from 5:30-8 p.m., Thursday, October 21 at Top of the Hill’s Great Room.
The gala, presented by Molly Maid of Chapel Hill and the Ms. Molly Foundation, will feature a silent auction, a live auction and live music by the Ken Broun Jazz Trio. Auction items include one-of-a-kind jewelry designed especially for the event and weekend getaways to Lake Tahoe, the mountains and the Carolina beaches.
Additionally, FVPC will raffle off a $300 Visa card and four one-day “park hopper” passes to Disney Orlando parks. Raffle tickets, which are $10 for one or $25 for three, will be available for purchase at the gala. Money raised from ticket sales, the raffle and the silent and live auctions will directly benefit FVPC, which served more than 800 clients in 2009. The number of clients served grows steadily each year.
“We are proud to be the host of the 10th birthday celebration of the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County,” said Dave and Mary Dickinson, owners of Molly Maid of Chapel Hill.
As a part of NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH, Katie Burkey, owner of Molly Maid of Youngstown and long-time Ms. Molly Foundation supporter is helping local domestic violence shelters by donating a portion of service fees from each home that Molly Maid of Mahoning/Trumbull Counties cleans to local shelters Sojourner House and Someplace Safe. A Chinese auction will be held through October. Residents in the Youngstown area can bid on items such as gift certificates for local eateries, gift baskets, spa certificates and other items.
Burkey also contributes a portion of every clean throughout the year to the Ms. Molly Foundation through our Dime-ond Level program. To date, 62 Molly Maid franchise businesses contribute to the program, which has raised over $20,000 so far in 2010!
Molly Maid Home Office
October 27 marks our annual Service Brands International/Ms. Molly Foundation Auction hosted at the Ann Arbor Home Office. Each year, our team members here at the home office look forward to bidding on everything from gift baskets, antiques, personal home cooked specialties, restaurant gift cards, vacation homes, and all kinds of other fun things. This year, neighboring franchise owners from Molly Maid, Mr. Handyman, ProTect Painters and 1-800-DryClean have been invited to participate!
As October is national domestic violence awareness month, SBI employees, vendors, and community members band together at our auction to raise money. Money raised from the auction provides assistance to over 100 domestic violence safe houses and shelters across the country, including our two local shelters, SafeHouse Center of Washtenaw County and LACASA of Livingston County. The National Coalition of Domestic Violence Awareness predicts one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault each year.
While the statistics can be overwhelming, there’s something we can all do to help put lives back together. In 2009, the Ms. Molly Foundation raised more than $146,000, which is a 15% increase over the previous year! We’re thrilled with our system’s support, especially in light of charities nationwide experiencing a 30% decline in funds raised last year. Since 1996, our efforts have brought in more than $810,000, of which over 55% has been raised in the past 4 years and we’re just getting started. Ms. Molly is a vitally important part of Service Brands International; it defines who we are, and what we’re trying to accomplish in our communities.
